Dear ATOM Members,
I am sending this to let you know about the Breast Cancer 3-Day, a great event scheduled to take place in Boston on August 15, 2008 – August 17, 2008
The 3-Day is a fundraising event in which thousands of participants volunteer to walk twenty miles a day for three days to raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs. The beneficiaries are Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
To ensure the health and safety of all participants of the event, a volunteer medical and sports medicine team of physicians (MD; DO), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses (RN; LVN/LPN), EMT’s (basic and paramedic), athletic trainers, physical therapists, and chiropractors is in place as an integral part of the event.
We are now in the process of recruiting volunteers who would like to be part of this team and I would like to enlist your help and support in getting the message out to your fellow NATA members as well as the health care community where you live and work. I have attached a small informational piece that you may use in your newsletter.
As a bonus for 2008, we recently received approval from the Board of Certification, Inc. for a new continuing education (CE) course that we will offer on all 3-Day events this year. The course has been approved for a maximum of 27 Category A CE hours and is available to all Certified Athletic Trainers who are on the sports medicine team for all three days of the event. There is no cost for the course; it is offered as a bonus for being on the sports medicine team.
For you and other NATA athletic trainers who might be interested in joining the event, you will be able to find more information, or even sign up online, on the 3-Day website, www.The3Day.org.
The beneficiary websites are:
Susan G. Komen for the Cure: www.komen.org
National Philanthropic Trust: www.nptrust.org
Not only are we looking for athletic trainers to volunteer as crew for the sports medicine team but also, if any of the employees where you work are interested, they can sign up to be a walker or be on a different crew team.
If you have any questions or concerns about the event or the medical or sports medicine teams, please feel free to call me any time. I look forward to hearing from you.
